What is an age calculator?
An age calculator finds your exact age from your date of birth. It is the same calculation government forms, school admissions and recruitment applications ask for — but done instantly and without mistakes. Instead of counting years on your fingers or wrestling with leap years, you enter your date of birth and a reference date, and the tool returns your age in years, months and days, plus your total time lived in days, hours, minutes and seconds.
The difference between "how old am I" and "what is my exact age" matters. A rough answer — "I am 24" — is fine for conversation. A form that asks for your age "as on 1 August 2026" needs precision: 24 years, 3 months and 12 days, not 24. One day can decide whether an application is accepted or rejected, which is why exam aspirants check their age against the official cut-off date before applying.
How to calculate exact age (the borrow method)
Our calculator uses the standard calendar-subtraction method. Subtract the birth year, month and day from the target year, month and day. When the target day is smaller than the birth day, borrow the days of the previous month; when the target month is smaller than the birth month, borrow 12 months from the year. Leap years are handled automatically because the calculation uses the real calendar — a person born on 29 February turns a year older on 1 March in non-leap years.
Example: born 10 March 2006, checked on 1 April 2025. Years: 2025 − 2006 = 19. Months: April − March = 1, but the day (1) is smaller than the birth day (10), so borrow one month and add March's 31 days: 1 + 31 − 10 = 22 days, months drop to 0. Result: 19 years, 0 months, 22 days. This is the same arithmetic every official age calculator uses — the tool simply does it without error.
Age on a specific date — why forms ask for it
Recruitment notifications never ask "how old are you today". They ask your age on a fixed date: UPSC counts age as on 1 August of the exam year, SSC uses 1 August or 1 January depending on the exam cycle, and banks use the first day of the notification month. Two candidates born in the same year can fall on opposite sides of eligibility because of where their birthdays land relative to that date. That is why this tool lets you set any "as on" date instead of locking you to today.
The same feature helps beyond exams: school admission cut-offs, passport and licence applications, retirement planning, and even settling a friendly argument about who is older by how many days. Set the date, read the exact answer.
Exam age eligibility — NDA, UPSC, SSC, IBPS and BCS
Below are the standard age brackets used by India's and Bangladesh's major exams. Treat them as a quick reference: the official notification or circular for your specific cycle is always the final word, because brackets and cut-off dates change between cycles.
| Exam | Standard age bracket | Reference date | Category relaxation |
|---|---|---|---|
| NDA & NA (UPSC) | 16.5 – 19.5 years | As per notification (exact DOB window published) | None |
| UPSC Civil Services | 21 – 32 years | 1 August of the exam year | OBC +3, SC/ST +5, PwD +10 |
| SSC CGL | 18 – 32 years (post-wise) | 1 August / 1 January by cycle | OBC +3, SC/ST +5, PwD +10 |
| IBPS PO | 20 – 30 years | Notification month | OBC +3, SC/ST +5, PwD +10 |
| BCS (Bangladesh) | 21 – 32 years | As per circular | Per latest circular |
NDA deserves a special note. Its 3-year window is the strictest of all: candidates must be between 16½ and 19½ years old, and UPSC publishes an exact date-of-birth window for NDA-I and NDA-II each year. If your birthday falls near either edge, check the notification's window directly — a general calculator can tell you your age, but only the notification tells you the window.
BCS candidates: the general maximum age for Bangladesh Civil Service was raised to 32 years in the 2024 gazette. Quota relaxations (freedom fighter children, small ethnic groups, persons with disabilities and others) follow the latest circular, so confirm your category's rule before relying on the standard bracket.
Why use this age calculator?
Private by design. Your date of birth is personal data. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server, nothing is stored, and closing the tab erases the session. There is no account, no sign-up and no tracking of what you entered.
More than one number. Most calculators stop at years, months and days. This one also shows total months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and seconds lived, the weekday you were born on, and a countdown to your next birthday — the details people actually enjoy checking.
Built for exam season. The eligibility mode is the feature other calculators hide behind separate pages: pick your exam and category, set the cut-off date, and get a clear eligible / not eligible verdict with the rule it was judged against.
How to use it
1. Enter your date of birth. 2. Set the "as on" date — today by default, or the exam's cut-off date. 3. For eligibility, switch to Exam mode, pick your exam and category. 4. Press Calculate. Your exact age, totals, next birthday and (in exam mode) your verdict appear instantly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my exact age?
Enter your date of birth and the date you want your age as on. The calculator subtracts the two dates using the calendar borrow method, accounting for leap years, and returns your age in years, months and days.
What is the age limit for NDA?
NDA candidates must be between 16.5 and 19.5 years old. UPSC publishes an exact date-of-birth window for each NDA-I and NDA-II cycle — always check that window in the official notification.
What is the UPSC age limit?
For UPSC Civil Services, the standard bracket is 21 to 32 years as on 1 August of the exam year. OBC candidates get 3 extra years, SC/ST 5 years and PwD 10 years, subject to the notification's rules.
Can I check my age on a specific date?
Yes. Change the "Check age as on" field to any past or future date — for example 1 August 2026 for UPSC — and the tool calculates your exact age on that date.
Is my date of birth uploaded anywhere?
No. The entire calculation happens in your browser. Your date of birth never leaves your device, is never stored on a server, and disappears when you close the page.
What is the BCS age limit?
The BCS general bracket is 21 to 32 years, raised to 32 in the 2024 gazette. Quota relaxations depend on the latest BCS circular, so confirm your category's rule before applying.
